Eligibility for Benefits
The following is a brief description of benefits the college provides to its employees. The details of these programs are outlined in separate summary plan descriptions and can be obtained from the Office of Human Resources or are available on the Human Resources website.
Eligibility for each of these benefits depends upon the terms of the benefit plan involved. In the event of any inconsistency between the language in this handbook and the language of a benefit plan, the language of the benefit plan will control. For the purposes of benefits eligibility, a faculty, exempt, or non-exempt position that pertains to or is associated with an academic program that works at least a 9-month appointment with at least 20 hours per week during the 9-month timeframe is considered to be 0.50 FTE.
From time to time, the benefits described in this section may be changed. Further, although the college does not expect to terminate any benefit, plan, or program, it reserves the right to do so.
Most benefits become effective the first of the month following the date of hire, unless the hire date is the first working day of the month, in which case benefits become effective on the date of hire.
The college pays a significant portion of the costs of these benefits for employees. When allowed by federal and state law and regulation, employee contributions will be deducted from paychecks on a pre-tax basis.
