Attends to. Cares for, looks after, takes charge of, watches over, examines, counsels, or treats.
Authorized Adult. Anyone 18 years old or older who interacts with, supervises, chaperones, or otherwise oversees Minors in Youth Programs on behalf of Central College.
Child Abuse. Conduct toward a Minor that constitutes Physical Abuse or Sexual Abuse—
Physical Abuse means any non-accidental physical injury inflicted by an adult.
Sexual Abuse means sexual intercourse of any kind; sexual touching; indecent exposure; inducing a Minor to disrobe for sexual-gratification purposes; and/or viewing, photographing, or filming a Minor in a state of full or partial nudity for purposes of sexual-gratification (of any person), provided, however, that consensual sexual contact between Minors who are 16 years old or older does not constitute Sexual Abuse. This definition incorporates the definition and meaning of what constitutes “sexual abuse” under Iowa law, see Iowa Code chapter 709.
College-Sponsored Youth Program: A Youth Program hosted/presented by a Sponsoring Unit.
Dependent Adult. Anyone age 18 or older whose physical and/or mental condition makes them dependent on others for care or protection.
Dependent Adult Abuse. Conduct toward a Dependent Adult that constitutes Physical Abuse or Sexual Abuse—

Sexual Abuse means nonconsensual sexual contact of any kind; indecent exposure; inducing a Dependent Adult to disrobe for sexual-gratification purposes; and/or viewing, photographing, or filming a Dependent Adult in a state of full or partial nudity for purposes of sexual-gratification (of any person). This definition incorporates the definition and meaning of what constitutes “sexual abuse” under Iowa law, see Iowa Code chapter 709.
Direct Contact. Providing care, supervision, guidance, or control of Minors and/or having routine (as opposed to isolated or sporadic) interaction with Minors.
Enrolled Student. A Student enrolled in a program of study or course(s) for credit, including both full-time degree-seeking students and non-degree seeking or guest students.
Enrolled Student Activities. Activities relating to higher education at Central College for Enrolled Students, including courses, experiential learning, student teaching, internships, student organizations, orientation, and tutoring.
Minor. Anyone under 18 years of age.
One-On-One Contact. Personal, unsupervised interaction between any Authorized Adult and a Minor participant without at least one other Authorized Adult, parent or legal guardian being present.
Program Director. The Central College employee with primary responsibility for a College-sponsored Youth Program.
Prospective Student: A person who is considering enrollment at Central College in a program of study or course(s) for credit, including students who have been accepted for admission to Central College but have not yet enrolled in or started courses.
Sponsoring Unit. A Central College Department, Office, Athletic Team, Student Organization, Music Ensemble, or other unit of the College hosting/presenting a Youth Program.
Suspect. To believe something is probably true (does not mean “know for sure”).
Youth Program. An academic, athletic, educational, or recreational activity designed to primarily serve Minors. “Youth Programs” do not include Central College Enrolled Student Activities, events on campus which are open to the general public, and preview events/campus visits by prospective students.
